Help - Need Some Perspective

OK Mom friends. I really need some perspective here. McKenna wants to enter the school talent show. And for that I'm thrilled. She's not generally one to want to be in the limelight, but she really feels she could do well and I want so badly to encourage this for her.

My dilemma - she wants to sing to Beyonce's Irreplaceable http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsQvXgCcng8 (she's never seen the video) and dance to the same song with her friend. I don't believe that she will survive the first audition, but I'm even wondering if I should let her try out. It's alright for her to sing and dance to our music choices at home, but I really need some perspective from you out there to tell me what you would think of a 7 year old singing this song to her elementary schoolmates. I really tried to get her to find another song, but this has been a favorite for a while, even though she really can't understand the concepts.

So please feel free to tell me like you see it. And if I should nix the idea, any suggestions on what to replace it with? Thanks!

You know I'll be honest--nope. I looked up the lyrics and I think there are too many words/lines in there that are not appropriate for kids and an elementary school talent show. Love the song but again- not for kids at school. I think sticking with kid friendly performers is best for alln (that way they won't get judged harshly at "tryout" too). So--how about Keke Palmer? We love her songs--great vibes to dance to and she is "hip" with girls/kids. Here's her site http://www.kekepalmer.com/
Jewel and Olivia did a dance to The Jonas Brothers "That's Just the Way We Roll" which was darling and the kids in the audience sang along and loved it! BUT that may be too "pop" for McKenna & her friend as they may have better taste in music! Let me know if you want any more suggestions (or honest opinions ;)

All I know is that whatever she ends up singing, it'll be GREAT! I'll never forget when we went Katie's 1st Winter Program and McKenna dominated the entire last few songs. I was crying and laughing it was incredible! She definitely takes after her Daddy with respect to performing - I want an update and a video clip when it is available (!)

Thanks gals. Kiwi - thanks for the support of Mac. I hope she does well and I'd love to see her feel good about her performance and have fun.

K - I appreciate your feedback so much too. You are right - my gut was telling me no and as mad as she's going to be with me, I need to put my foot down! Best thing I can probably do is flood her MP3 with newer - kid friendly - songs! Thanks for the suggestions and love that I have outside sanity to help:-)

What a tough call ... and here I am worried both my boys are in love with High School Musical (1 & 2). Not really appropriate for a 2-yr old but he loves it. And both want to be singers, basketball and baseball players. What a tough position, I'd have to say no as well and help her focus in on other areas. Maybe she perform her song (both new choice and this choice) for a family gathering (a safe, non-judgmental environment). Make a big thing of it so she gets to perform her favorite song and you have piece of mind.
